ASHER ROTH - I LOVE COLLEGE (dubstep remix)
Genre dubstep
The video is going to give the impression that Asher and his mates have had a mad night out partying, the twist to really grab the attention of the audience will be the fact that the party actually happened at the college.
The video opens with a senior teacher walking up to the heads office, no music is playing at this moment it is all diagetic sound. When he walks in to his supprise there is a young man sprawled behind the desk on the floor, Asher will stagger to his feet and put a half empty can of lager into the hand of the head and this is when the tune kicks in.
We follow Asher out through the door and down the corridor and a normal days college is underway. Students will be passed out through the hallway but other students will be going about their normal day, Asher will have flashbacks of the night before where students will be partying and drinking the cuts will happen on every 8 beats to the song to keep it regular and interesting for the audience the film will be treated in a de-saturated manor so that the colors have disappeared from the day just like the peoples faces however in contrast to this the night before will feature very bright colors and a slightly blurred camera effect
I am sticking to the normal genre characteristics of Dubstep with a lot of flashing lights, fast paced, drinking and slight references to the use of drugs to correspond with the lyrics
Their will be a big relationship between the lyrics and visuals for example the chorus, “that party last night was awfully crazy”- the visuals will be showing flashes of the party from the night before also the day after with everyone hung-over looking very rough in collage passed out in the hallway
The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work

AOB4 music video analysis
Focus group
Asher Roth - I love collage
In my proposal I suggested that the camera cuts will be made on every 8th beat, my feedback gathered from this was to change it so that each clip goes with the beat of the music but changes at different time, so each frame is different lengths.
They liked the idea that the film will be treated in a de-saturated manor so that the colors have disappeared from the day like they would be in the hung-over party- people. In contrast to this the clips of the night before will feature very bright colors and a slightly blurred camera effect to represent the drunken feeling of the people. They thought that it would be a great way to represent the feeling of all the people.
They liked that I have looked closely at the characteristics of the Dubstep genre, but they thought I could perhaps be a little different from the norm. They suggested that at points that maybe I slow down the pace and shoot some of the people in a rough handheld way to give a drunken effect of the characters from the night before.
Research report
Introduction
I am analyzing the music video “runaway” by the artist Devlin featuring DJ Yasmin directed by Emil Nava
The track is of a UK grime genre and the music video has many characteristics of this genre as the video is set on the streets of Dagenham showing everyday life
Characteristics between lyrics and visuals
[Yasmin - Chorus]
I gotta leave, I gotta go,
there’s nothing here for me no more
I gotta be free, I gotta be
somewhere that I can just be me.
and I run run runaway, run run runaway,
run run runaway, I runaway.
during the first chorus as Yasmin sings we see Devlin catching a train to run away. we also see quick shots of people walking away from the camera telling us that they are running away, also we see in the background of Yasmin singing heavy traffic leaving Dagenham.
during the second chorus we see a various amount of people running away just as yasmin is singing about.
during all verses the camera is mainly on Devlin as he MC's with slight characteristics between the lyrics and visuals such as
Verse 2
Purchased two tickets to an alien destination,
Board the train and witnessed pain upon the faces of multicultural races,
But not me and my girl we're breaking free like an escapist.
Cus we need to escape this.
And I for one have got my mind made up,
Even if where we're staying is makeshift,
I cant remain in this domain it'll send me ape-shit.
Cuz all I see is hatred.

Conventions of a CD Cover
What does it do?
A CD cover is made to protect the CD from being scratched or damaged, it is also a good way to allow star construction showing us about the artist and catch the eye of shoppers
What does it look like
CD cases are usually square, they can come in many different materials from a more popular plastic Jewel case or cardboard Digipack, CD cases can be whatever the artist wants to reflect his image.
CD cases usually measure at 142mm x 125mm x 10mm including a booklet inside containing things from lyrics, information of the artist and images.
On the back of CD cases usually you will find a list of the tracks (songs) on the cd, also known as the Track Listing, somewhere on the CD, mainly found on the front, there is usually a image of the band or artist and the artist or bands name.
Finally also there is usually copyright information, credits, thanks, songs written by etc.. Information in a small font
Different genres tend to have different cd codes and conventions, for example a electronic/dance cd would be more colourful due to the happiness and brightness in the music and a heavy metal cd would be dull and dark
Shy fx
Shy fx (Andre Williams) is an English Jungle Drum and Bass DJ and producer from london. Shy FX's debut record was "Jungle Love" released in 1992 which i am unable to gather album artwork for. Soon after, he signed to Sound of Underground Records and released "Original Nuttah", featuring UK Apache in 1994, one of the biggest jungle drum and bass tunes ever made. (1)
Throughout his career he has worked with T Power, both as Ebony Dubsters and Shy FX and T Power; their 2002 track "Shake Ur Body" with vocalist Di was a #7 hit in the UK Singles Chart. In 2005 he founded Digital Soundboy Recordings. (2)
More recently, he produced "Raver", featuring Kano and Done'o and Roses Gabor, plus the UK artist Yasmin's first single, "On My Own". (3)
He announced that his new album, 'Larger Than Life', will be released in 2011.
shy fx has released a very little amount of albums, as a jungle drum and bass artist i expect to see more of the colors red yellow and green from the Jamaican flag as seen on his album Raver (3), their are no real similarities between any of shy fx's albums
album name - Larger than life
Track list -
1. intro
2. mixmag
3. raver
4. larger than life
5. gyptian - hold you (shy fx and benny page digital soundboy remix)
6. on the run
7. everyday
8. you better leave me
Interview
I interviewed a few people within the target audience about the album cover I am going to make, here is the feedback I gathered off them
· The majority of people wanted to see a new style on his new album cover to a more in your face jungle design like his music
· Special edition copies would be preferred and will sell better
· Special edition should include a poster and stickers

AOB 5 Evaluation
I believe I worked well throughout the unit, I was late starting he unit so had to work at a fast pace to catch up throughout the A0B1 skills exercise, I struggled to meet deadlines but got their in the end such s the final deadline making sure all my work was on my Blog and ordering it so it is easy to see what work may have been missing. I developed on my Photoshop skills throughout the unit by creating a magazine front cover, especially when I edited the main image on my magazine front cover changing colors and playing around with all the tools. I was already quite familiar with final cut express and shot my short film quite quickly and edited it as much as I possibly could. I also learnt how to use garage band by creating a radio Pod cast. I had never used this program before however I didn't struggle; I added lots of tracks with different effects and sound effects.
I believe I worked well throughout he unit, I worked better under direction however I am very capable to work independently which I did for the majority of this unit rather than part of a team.
I needed alot of creativity throughout the unit creating artistic Mood boards and designing an album front cover. I worked accurately though I struggled to meet some deadlines. I was familiar with all the equipment we used such as video cameras and tripods to film
Due to starting the unit late I was not able to share tasks as I had fell behind, when I caught up, as a group we made a timeline of music video history video where as a group we worked together, supported each other, helped each other meet deadlines and evaluated each other giving one and other feedback.
Next year in this course I hope to improve my skills in media even more by using programs such as Photoshop garage band and final cut express, also I hope to make it to much more lessons and spend more of my free time on the course.
Overall I enjoyed this unit a lot, especially due to the fact that we could base our work on our favorite hobbies and interests for example creating a magazine front cover of our choice, designing album front covers of our favorite band or artist also learning new things and how to use equipment and software in more detail
